The City Steam Jazz Band started life in the mid 1980s as "The Gingermen" and was named after its leader - the fine clarinet and saxophone player Ron Ginger. The only member of this band now playing with City Steam is Dave Martin. When Ron moved on in about 1987 we changed our name to the "City Steam Jazz Band". Read why
From then, until he left to go to Spain in 2001, the band was run by John Hutchings. During this period the band was very active, and in 1995 made its first recording "Live at the Clavel".
